On July 24, 2024, the Borel Fire started on the south side Highway 178 near the Democrat Fire Station on the Kern River Ranger District in (Kern County). The cause is under investigation.
This fire was previously reported under 2024 SQF Lightning.

12/24/48/72 hours: Suppression repair is complete. Crews will continue to patrol and mop up. SCE has completed power line work on Breckenridge Anticipated after 72 hours: Heat was found in the rehabed dozer line. Due to this, we ordered a Type 2 Crew to help patrol the control line. Once areas of concerns have been patrolled on foot, we will continue to monitor from the road and mop up. Interior pockets and islands within the fire area will continue to burn until the area receives wetting rain. The fire area may still face challenges from upcoming weather predictions. |
Weather Concerns | A large upper level ridge will impact the burn area beginning on Tuesday and strengthen through the next few days. This will results in above normal temperatures and lower daytime humidity through at least Friday. There is a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms towards the weekend due to potential mid-level moisture. |
