Miller Peak Fire
Publication Type: News - 07/29/2024 - 09:45
KEY MESSAGE
The containment of the fire increased to 65%. Low relative humidity and gusty west winds today will result in near critical fire weather conditions. Cooler temperatures through the night and morning have allowed for crews to effectively mop-up, bolstering containment lines. Incident Commander Shane Martin and Northern Rockies Team 9, Type 3 Incident Management Team, will take control of the incident tomorrow at 0600.
Current Status
Hot and dry temperatures with gusty winds will allow interior fuels to smolder and burn. Crews will continue to patrol and mop-up as needed, while providing for firefighter safety. There will be aerial resources available to assist where needed today. As a protective measure, two heavy equipment containment lines farther from the fire edge are close to completion. Many resources are being released to other fires or home, and control of incident is being transferred to the new IMT.
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Temperatures warmed to the 80s with higher elevations to the 70s yesterday. Afternoon humidity readings drop to the teens while westerly winds push 30 mph. A cold front is expected to push through the area this evening into Tuesday which will kick up high winds and lower humidities as warm, dry air moves through the region. The front will bring widespread showers with potential for scattered thunderstorms.
CLOSURES
